Information and prevention about HIV and AIDS
The objective is prevent the virus from entering the body, avoiding the contact between a fluid that has infectious capacity.
HIV or Virus de Inmunodeficiencia Humanais a virus that removes certain cells from the immune system, which protects us against infections and diseases.
AIDS or Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome s the set of symptoms caused by infections / diseases that the organism suffers, as a result of the progressive deterioration of the immune system, after HIV infection.
HIV is transmitted through of the following body fluids: blood, semen, vaginal secretions and breast milk.
HIV is not transmitted by kiss or fondle, nor in the daily coexistence at home, work, toilets, offices, restaurants or schools, or by sharing eating utensils, glasses o las sports or leisure facilities, or through animals.
The time period between HIV transmission and AIDS development varies widely. That's why we say that all people living with AIDS have HIV, but not all people with HIV live with AIDS.
Thanks to advances in treatments it is possible to live with HIV without reaching the stage of illness (AIDS), without being therefore this virus causing a fatal disease.
Using a condom (male or female) in penetrative sex or oral sex. It also protects against other sexually transmitted infections and unplanned pregnancies.
Always using sterile material y avoiding sharingsyringes, needles and other injection devices if injected drugs are consumed.
If you are pregnant and have HIV , there are treatments which easily reduce the risk of transmission of the virus during pregnancy and childbirth. A woman with HIV should not breastfeed.
HIV diagnostic tests used are tests that detect and measure, usually through a specific blood test, the presence of antibodies that our body generates to cope with HIV.
There are currently several types of HIV testing, quick tests, made from a sample of gingival tissue (inner mucous membrane of the mouth) or blood and whose result is obtained immediately (completely reliable) and the conventional test through a blood test.
