Female genital mutilation is a terrible practice that humiliates, degrades and cruelly attacks women from the earliest childhood, assuming a violation of their human rights. TIt has serious gynecological, obstetric and psychosocial consequences.
200 million women in 30 countries in Africa and the Middle East have suffered this practice. 30 million girls could be victims of Female Genital Mutilation in the next 10 years.

In addition many countries around as Ivory Coast or Burkina Fasso, in which this practice is prohibited, go to Mali to do so.
The objective of Red Cross is that the practice is abandoned and thus improve the living conditions of women and girls in the area.
To do this, it develops information and awareness activities in the community about the risks of ablation. It also includes free medical and psychological assistance to the victims and receives aid for their socio-economic reinsertion.
